a wee bit of a granny giggle
2010
I found a gloriously warm, thick, long red wool jumper at the Sacred Heart Op Shop on Friday – ooooohhhh … I haven’t taken it off since. Except for a few hours Saturday morning when I took to it with a bundle of wee granny squares, hook and a needle.
Hee! hee! hee! Now this may be one of those things that in years to come I’ll be rather surprised that I did this, but for now, I LOVE it.
Using Lucy’s superlative directions,
I crocheted up my granny squares, (this was a marvellous feel good moment, as there’s been a lot of granny square crocheting this year accompanied by the silly thought that they could never be magicked into a rug because I would NEVER be able to sew them up. Do you do that? Get completely daft ideas into your head and then allow months/endless opportunities/good times to slide by ’cause you’re quite sure you cannot do it? I do. But I’m getting better :-). I then added a single crochet edge of dark brown to the ensuing panel to tidy it all up, then a red scalloped edge to the bottom. Some brown wool, a darning needle and an hour later …
The granny square jumper!
Isn’t it funny! I love looking down at all the colourful quaintness. Another Lily-fied jumper. Just what is needed here to beat the Melbourne chills and the penchant the locals have for wearing BLACK.

Wow! It looks great now! I think you really need colour for those cool days! So do we in wintertime! We are just now too hot here, but wearing bright colours. Have a nice week!
I love it!!!
Gorgeous. I think brighter is definitely better in the colder months!
Oh, I LOVE it! What a fun sweater! Good for you for having the confidence to sew it together. And, YES, I get myself all stuck in the mud thinking I can’t do things like this and crocheted blocks languish. Have FUN wearing your new Lily-fied creation!
You and the sweater are both adorable! I love how all of your projects have such color and joy in them. That says a lot about you my dear :)
I just love that!
Yes, what is it with black and melbourne and ballarat.
Doesn’t exist in my wardrobe.
Love the granny squares, I just finnished off a tunic with granny squares around the yoke, and I love it.
two great minds think alike!
How charming are you!? I think this is the first time I’ve seen a photo of you on here and I think you (and of course your sweater) are adorable.
I have to admit, I am the worst when it comes to procrastinating in that way sometimes. It’s so rewarding when we jump in though, right?
all. the. time. it’s usually that i think i can’t finish it ‘just right’. but it’s far better to finish either way! love the color!
What a fun way to adorn the sweater :)
It looks adorable with the granny squares and warm & snuggly too :)
Hi Lily! Absolutely love IT! You’re giving me ideas…Lol
WHAT A NEAT IDEA!!! TOO CUTE! IT WILL WORK GREAT FOR ALL THOSE SWEATERS THAT ARE TOO SHORT FOR MY LIKING. ( IF I BUY LARGER SIZES, THEY WOULD BE TOO BIG :-) ).
What a cute idea! I have to have my belly covered and it seems all my tops shrink lengthwise and end up too short. This would be a great option for them. I think I will give it a try! Another thing for my to do list! lol
I love what you did – it brings that jumper/sweater to LIFE!!! Those poor little granny squares seemed to fall out of favor for many years and now they have absolutely redeemed themselves! How glorious!!! I am in suffering hot Pennsylvania now but it will be cold up here on the ridge come winter – and I may just take some of my scraps and fancify (or Lilyfy) some of my own clothing! Thanks for the inspiration!
TOOO cute…very creative!
Cutie!! I love that last sassy picture! We, me and the boys, were discussing seasons. I was telling them about how while we are moving in to our hot HOT HOT part of the year, some of my friends are moving in to their cold part of the year. And how when you think of Christmas, you think of warm weather. These blogs prompt lots of learning for all of us!
