almost lost it …

… spring that is.  Today was SO GREY!  And cool and windy.  Hmph!

Just a few touches were needed to make me forget that I had been hustled back into a cardigan.

Strawberry water and jasmine in front of the sewing machine ….. mmmmm…. breathe in deeply.  Yes that’s spring.

The smooth perfection of a finger avocado - doesn’t even have a seed - how’s that?

Beautiful blocks that just keep working so well.

!

Check it out - the stripes are travelling in the one direction …

… and so are the ladybirds.  That’s surely a sign of spring.

[ btw, there's nothing like showing someone else how to do something, to make you really sharpen up your own performance - I have been producing ** 8 1/2 inch blocks ** - not 8 1/4 - cool huh!  The secret to my success - the ironing.  Patti put me up to it.  Now I carefully, slowly and gently but firmly press the fabric back from the seam with my fingers.  I really take my time with this - it's positively a Buddhist moment.  Only then do I present the iron - and now I am finally into the pat-pat instead of the smear-smear - I'm getting much better results. ]

But the ultimate signs of spring are that the children are still determinedly swimming - even though it was so cold we heard them all exclaim religiously as they jumped in from deep inside the house!  And there are punnets and punnets of strawberries being surreptitiously removed from the fridge and devoured within minutes.

Now tomorrow we’d just like the warm sun and gentle spring air back please.

p.s. this is one of my favourite warm weather salads … that we ate tonight, pretending the evening was balmy.

take 4 large carrots, peel and coarsely grate; add to large mixing bowl with 2 drops of sesame oil, 2 tablespoons olive oil, and the juice of half a lemon - mix;  add 1 cup of salted peanuts and 1/2 cup of sultanas.  Mix and eat all of it up! (It does not keep well over night.)

It sounds yammy! I would have added some slices of avocado to it!!! Now back to packing…

So glad to be of help! It’s amazing what difference pressing correctly makes.

Those fingerling avocados look marvelous! I was at Whole Foods this morning and looked for these but didn’t find them. Weight Watchers calls for avocado in a bunch of their stuff, but so little that I can’t use it up before it goes bad. (I can’t just eat it, which I’d love to do, because it’s too many points.) These would be the perfect answer to this problem. Now we just have to import them from Australia! (I presume that’s where they are from LOL!)

Yes. Pat pat. It’s so tempting to smear, smear, isn’t it?

I love the ‘N’ block - I have always wanted to make an alphabet block quilt - I’m sure it has already been done many times - but it is on my to do list. I love the blue ladybug material.
