another birthday treat …

Months and months and months ago, I was playing around with making soft kokeshi dolls.  The first one was okay, the second one was a little bit strange, and the third one has been languishing in the cut out stage since February.

Abigail, in lovely daughter style, thinks any stuffed toy I make is worthy of her delight and love, so yesterday I pulled out Number 3 and stitched her up for Abigail’s birthday.

And I must say, after the prettiness of the finished pillowcase and the flat evidence laying here before me, I was on a stitching high!

Until I stitched her up and pulled her out the right way.  Strange things happened to that lovely round head.  Things that I am at a loss to explain - maybe it was when I trimmed away what I thought was excess hair.  Hmmm …. that might have been it.

At the moment, this dolly looks more like the evil Vizir from the Disney version of Aladdin.  I don’t know whether I should share her - either with you or Abigail - maybe I should just start again.

But she looked so cute laying flat!!!!!   AAAAARRRRRGHHHHHH!!!

She looked cute, and then she looked scary. But I do love the idea. Maybe she decided she’d rather be an applique than get stuffed.

I think you will help her so that she will look lovely again! Kalle has high fever and poor me fight against the flu. Bernina is waiting to spend the weekend with me! Keep your fingers crossed! Have a nice weekend!

Unstuff her, make her flat again, put her back in the cupboard, that’s where she was happiest. She’s trying to tell you that. She probably has a whole family there, and now you’ve taken her away from them. Poor little babies, and a lonely husband, maybe even an ailing mother…who knows what goes on in the back of the cupboards.

More stuffing maybe? Pinking shears on her inside seams?

I like Katy’s analysis - put her back in the cupboard!

Hee hee, I agree with Katy! If she is being so uncooperative, there must be a good reason!

hmmm - I would say less stuffing so maybe her head can be a little ‘flatter’ and more flattering! hehe

but she’s still cute (in an evil sort of way)

Maybe she can just be a “flat” doll? ;)

She looks lovely flat … keep going - I know you’ll get the desired look in the end … says the woman who has temporarily deserted her cotton rabbit pattern out of frustration ;-)
