beachy
2012
:: rich honeyed sun, spotless blue sky, silvery sparkled water,
crunchy toasted sand, stroppy seagulls with their entitled whinging,
gentle tinkling as the waves wash the shore ::
:: our shoes come off, the quilt is spread out,
oh the loveliness of offering ourselves up to the spring warmth ::
:: the boy walks,
the mother dozes,
the girlie and I share a game of backgammon – she’s relentless ::

:: shells are collected,
dollies sunbathe,
there’s brief – very brief – paddling,
oh my! that water’s cold ::
:: there’s even a wee bit of sandy crochet ::

:: time to go,
last looks out to sea,
the feathered folk come closer just in case we’re leaving tasty anythings behind,
we take home someone else’s discarded fishing line,
& remind ourselves to bring a rubbish bag next time ::
:: even one bag we fill will be one bagful of plastic rubbish
that will not find its way into the stomachs of the lovely beach dwelling critters
who share their home – that we so love – with us ::

Stunning photos, and colours and love the crochet on the beach…I have done that this summer too! I have just found your inspirational blog via Playing in the Attic… and added you to my blogroll so I don’t miss a post from now on! Fiona
It’s so wonderful to read there are kind hearted people like you and your family who take few minutes to keep our beautiful planet safe for ALL creatures. Your crochet blanket is looking quite lovely.
Lovely photos at the beach. Like your colourful Converse shoes all lined up : -)
