It’s just such fun!  That simple needle with its saucy hook.  The freedom of only having one live stitch at a time.  The sweetness with which the fabric loops together.  The ease with which I can indulge in it no matter where I am. And now … I have new books (tee! hee! hee! hee!) Ah how gleeful it is that the two things I love to do best – reading and making – go together so well. :-)

through-the-window

Freshly arrived from the Mother Country (we here in Bootville are newly smitten with this marvellous shop) are “Beyond the Square Crochet Motif” by the very imaginative Edie Eckman, and “100 Flowers to Knit and Crochet” never ending prettiness from Leslie Stanfield.  Oooooh – where to start?

book-and-circle

Given my novice status, I’ve stuck to the circles … and they’re such a delight to hook.  That really ruffly one, I’m not sure how I did that.  It looks nothing like its role model but hey!  Abby thinks it’s cute.  And the 3D number – now that’s cool.  I am in awe that I was able to follow those instructions.

jar-of-wool

I’m even getting the hang of reading the diagrams.  I read the instructions first, then study the diagrams.  In lucky moments, a little light goes on, a bell dings and I exclaim a-ha!  You see, it is essential that I master these wee diagrams so that I may purchase and read the amazing Japanese crochet books that abound in the webby world.  And my, those Japanese crocheters, they sure now how to make pretty.

three-circles

Goals for the week – finish the ripple (only three coloured rows left to add), finish adding the pink row to the grannies (only 2 squares left), make a few more circles and add them to what will soon be hanging in the kitchen, and I think I definitely need to try a flower with which to adorn my winter hat.  Yum!
