crochet in the morning, crochet in evening, crochet at supper time …
2010
It’s just such fun! That simple needle with its saucy hook. The freedom of only having one live stitch at a time. The sweetness with which the fabric loops together. The ease with which I can indulge in it no matter where I am. And now … I have new books (tee! hee! hee! hee!) Ah how gleeful it is that the two things I love to do best – reading and making – go together so well. :-)
Freshly arrived from the Mother Country (we here in Bootville are newly smitten with this marvellous shop) are “Beyond the Square Crochet Motif” by the very imaginative Edie Eckman, and “100 Flowers to Knit and Crochet” never ending prettiness from Leslie Stanfield. Oooooh – where to start?
Given my novice status, I’ve stuck to the circles … and they’re such a delight to hook. That really ruffly one, I’m not sure how I did that. It looks nothing like its role model but hey! Abby thinks it’s cute. And the 3D number – now that’s cool. I am in awe that I was able to follow those instructions.
I’m even getting the hang of reading the diagrams. I read the instructions first, then study the diagrams. In lucky moments, a little light goes on, a bell dings and I exclaim a-ha! You see, it is essential that I master these wee diagrams so that I may purchase and read the amazing Japanese crochet books that abound in the webby world. And my, those Japanese crocheters, they sure now how to make pretty.
Goals for the week – finish the ripple (only three coloured rows left to add), finish adding the pink row to the grannies (only 2 squares left), make a few more circles and add them to what will soon be hanging in the kitchen, and I think I definitely need to try a flower with which to adorn my winter hat. Yum!

one day I will learn to crochet. One day. Until then I can keep myself satisfied looking at those pretties.
Oh my!!! WHat a beautiful and sweet post! Love the colors and thanks so much for the links! I’m going to check them all!
“Be my little honey, and crochet all the time!” You make this look so simple to learn.
I’ll bet if there was a contest of who is the more novice crocheter, you or I, I’d win!! But I’d love to learn more and this book looks like it just might be the ticket! Thanks for sharing! ~karen
I’ll be right over for a lesson and some hand holding. :-))))) Looks delightful!
They look beautiful Lily! I love the book depository website (free post AND cheap books) and had just ordered the same books last week! I’ll have to go and wait by my mail box so I can do some hooking too! Hurry up postie!
Thanks for brightening my day with your lovely work and good luck with your weeks crafting goals!
The colors and patterns of these circles are delicious… Your crochet list of things for the week sounds so much fun… Happy crocheting :)
The squares are enticing. I love them.
Your little circles are a joy to look at. What a treat
Hi Lily,
I just got that book and it’s so fantastic! I want to finish the sweater I’m knitting before I begin making motifs…..or you know my sweater will be put aside for a while!
I finished my doily curtains yesterday. Thanks for that inspiration! It’s always so colorful and inspiring to see the beautiful creations you’re workin on!
Sending love,
sara
Crochet is so addicting, isn’t it? Love those colors.
As usual, your colors make me so happy!
I used to crochet more (and sew more), but knitting and spinning seem to use up all my time these day. I’ll have to dig out my hooks and do a little playing now!
