dithering
2012
Isn’t this just the way of things. I’m finally free of study and essays and pracs and placements and what do I do? Tackle all the unfinished projects? Get stuck into something lovely and new and marvellous? Heck no! I’ve been dithering.
Dithering with yarn. Dithering with thrifted wool and embroidery thread. Dithering with dolls. Dithering with Abby. Actually that’s not true. Abby never dithers. She throws herself into new projects and gets them done whizz bang. And reading. I’ve been doing lots of flopping on the sofa and whiling away the hours with novel after novel.
:: sigh :: Maybe I needed this little wind down period. Maybe next week, I’ll be all revved up to write a to do list and do, do, do.
Until then, dithering it is.

:: luscious alpaca stitches that are dreaming of being a shawl when they grow up ::
:: hmmm … knit? embroider? knit? embroider? both? ::
:: ha! this wasn’t a dither – started and finished the boy’s toque in one day! ::
:: where am I going with this! unbelievably, intensely frustrating … now thrown on the floor whilst I mull over it some more ::

:: example of a non-ditherer … not only did she finish the doll shown (a new Alice) but then she started and finished a new white rabbit … huh! ::
However, I win the award for the most innovative use of a tampon …
The girlie had left the stuffing opening in a silly spot … lower outside leg. Let me tell you how hard it was to stuff the lower arms from this angle. I gave up on knitting needles very quickly. Then the brain wave hit. Short. Right diameter. Nice and fim. Rounded tip. Perfect for pushing stuffing into wee dolly arms. Until I managed to wodge it in there and realised … why am I wasting my time pushing stuffing in here when I could just push the jolly tampon in and be done with it!
Abby flatly – melodramatically and all teenagey and all – refused to let me leave it in there. It went something like this … “WHAT THE FLIBBERGIT HAVE YOU JUST STUFFED INTO THE DOLL’S ARM!!!!!!!! THAT’S NOT A TAMPON IS IT!!!!!!!!! MY DOLL CANNOT GO AROUND WITH TAMPONS STUFFED INTO HER ARMS!!!!!! GET IT OUT NOW!!!!!!!!! YOU ARE SO EMBARRASSING!!!!!!!!! I CAN’T BELIEVE YOU DID THAT!!!!!! DAD!!!! MUM’S COMPLETELY CRAZY!!!!!!!”
I thought it was genius. So we had to extricate the tampon. But it still made a good arm stuffer ;-) And the next time I make a dolly with wee arms, guess what’s going to be in the bottom of them!

Dithering is good! Enjoy your down time as we call it. and thanks for the morning giggle with your tale of “arm stuffing” I just love how horrified these teens get with mention of unmentionables!
Morning Lily,
Like Carolyn, I’m giggling away at your writings this morning. I’m a ditherer to. I’m often seen drifting from one job to the next and then onto something else and at the end of my day I think “what did I do today”. The nasty weather you’ve been experiencing is moving through our area at the moment. Extremely strong winds, a bit scary at times. Keep warm and happy dithering.
Blessings Gail
I think the tampon makes perfect sense, after all, its just shaped cotton, right? I love all the pretties you’ve been working on.
It is wonderful that your exams are over! Yay! Have fun playing with your yarn or just relaxing with a good book! You deserve it :)
What a FABULOUS idea Lily.
I love it.
I’m sure Abby will when she’s not a teenager too ;)
Tampon craft … what will we read about next at Block-a-day?!!!!!!!!
The ides of tampon stuffed soft toys has me giggling. Perhaps you could design a range of incognito tampon holders – oh, I thought that soft toy on you key ring was just a soft toy.
