happy dogs

With the cooler weather drawing in, our dogs have been longing for cosiness.  And, being resourceful characters, they find it!  On my folded flannel nightdress on the bed. On Julian’s pillow.  On Mum’s armchair.  On my needlepoint cushions.

Now, as much as I love our dogs, they are a wee bit wiffy and doggy and grimy.  And I just don’t fancy going to bed smelling like Simon.

Something had to be done.  It had to be done cheaply, quickly and easily.  A trip to Ikea was in order.

Three pieces of Ikea upholstery weight fabric were required – in coordinating colours – coordinating with the dogs’ fur that is.  Abby chose blue for Toph – to enhance her red coat and sparkly blue collar. She declared Simon, with his glossy black curls, would look resplendent on orange.  And as for Lucy, her blonde girliness would look oh so pretty curled up on the black floral.  85cm of each fabric was cut.  Three $5 pillows were added.  Two hours later …

I don’t know whether the dogs are totally up on which pillow is theirs.  Abby keeps trying to redirect them but it’s a bit like musical chairs!  What, so the blue one is softer?  The orange one warmer?  I give up!  But they certainly know these three soft squishy bits of comfort are for dogs to lay on and they have instantly forsaken everything else.  Yay!

Their new floor pillows will stay inside – living room with us in the evening, kitchen for bed at night.  They can be stacked during the day – which Lucy is clearly fond of. This evening, oh they did look so sweet, their floor pillows arranged on the rug in front of my feet.  They snoozed, I stitched and the world was happy and peaceful.

And the nightdress, cushions, pillows and armchairs are doggy free.

  1. Two hours … didn’t take you long at all! Those dogs are very lucky to get such nice pillows! By the way, the blue print is among my Ikea favorites, and whenever I take it out to see what I can make with it, my daughter sits right on it!

  2. Awwww! Those dogs will be comfy and cozy. I have been thinking (only thinking, no action) about such a solution around here. The smaller dog takes over one of the couch back cushions every day. It is going to be permanently deformed very soon. To say nothing of the dog hairs…which I haven’t given up battling but have no hope of winning against. Those are some very stylish cushions! Hmm, may have to go to Ikea. After all, I’m also out of straws. Please give everyone a pat from us!
