household bartering
Thank you all so much for sharing your lovely thoughts on handmade yesterday! It was so wonderful to see that so many of my friends share the passion for creativity and individuality - what a wonderful contribution we can make to our world.

Hmmmmm … a new way of thinking is blooming here in the Boot house. The daughter has discovered the pleasures of bartering. It goes like this.

“If you wash up the lunch dishes sweet one, I can cast on your hand warmers.” She ran in, filled the sink and was at it in seconds.

“If I cook breakfast, will that give you time to finish the second hand warmer?” I think so!

“Why don’t I clean the guinea pigs’ cage whilst you go buy the wool for my poncho?” Y-e-s! (How I have loathed cleaning that guinea pig cage - even with her help!)

I think this new way of thinking is going to work very nicely.

p.s. these hand warmers - which came from here - introduced me to knitting with four little pointy needles, cabling, picot bind off, and making a THUMB HOLE! (this last one was the most thrilling moment - I couldn’t believe for a second it was going to work - and then it DID!) They were super fun and super quick to make. Give them a go!

Wow, they are gorgeous! I have admired this pattern but I think it looks especially nice with the pink yarn!
Glad you have found a way to get more done! Sometimes bartering can be quite satisfying. :)

We knew she was a clever girl! :-)) She’ll be awash in handmade at this rate. heehee How I loathe and avoid the thumbs…have done them, still meet them with great trepidation! We had a funny solution around here. I made Herself some yoga socks. After yoga class was over, she discovered what great handwarmers they make. Of course the “thumb hole” is made to accommodate a heel, but it seems to work for her. The pink handwarmers are indeed fetching!

Bartering is a great thing! Love the hand warmers. I’ve made one of them. I loved the pattern, but I think that my thumb was a little big. I’ll get the other one made eventually. Maybe with a smaller thumb.

what beautiful handwarmers!
I love the bartering system - may it continue to earn Abigail new stuff, and you time to create!

Love it! I would give anything to have somebody else clean the stinkin’ guinea pig cage!
I have wanted some hand warmers for a long time. Every winter I drool over them on etsy.
Thanks for sharing!

Woohoo! Good for you! And what a nice reward for your daughter, for her help and good thoughts.
And thumbholes aren’t so scary after all…
