thank you for all the lovely words you shared on my last post.
it is truly lovely to put into words something I find meaningful, and have you listen and enjoy.

set-for-dinner

I have many lovely tablecloths – some that I’ve made, some that are presents from my family, some that are thrifted and especially lovely ones that were my Nanny Dougall’s – but strangely enough, I’ve never really found my tablecloth groove.  I put them on, love them, then we eat, the cloth becomes marked, and before I know it, looks just like the ones at boarding school – a cheeky reminder of what we ate each night that week.  Of course, I could wash it everyday, but that is definitely not my cup of tea – I have neither the time, the water, or the hanging space.  But I love prettiness on the table, and simply bare wood under our plates leaves me feeling as if we are a wee bit uncouth!

placemat

Placemats it is.  And new ones were made today – a lovely opportunity to use some of the gorgeous fabric that lolls around the house.  That’s what it’s about huh!  Gorgeous fabric.  Any chance to add some more to our everyday lives is a good thing.

birds

paisley

Today, we have birds, paisley, momo, scissors, a pretty polka dot, and a sweet stripe.  All patchwork needs some pretty polka dot and sweet stripe.  Essential components they are.

candlelight

Quilted onto scraps of wool blanket.  This is a particularly thin blanket – it had many moth holes which made fussy cutting inevitable and is well washed and slightly felted so will sturdily stand up to its adventures with the washing machine.

eating

Ah … our dinner table looks so pretty tonight, that I am happy to just sit and look.  And I’ve made eight placemats so that when our friends come – there’ll be enough placemats to go around.

ever-hopeful

Simon is also happy to sit and look – in earnest anticipation that perhaps one day, something marvellous might happen. :-)
