Just writing about the lovely Lucinda’s Needle fabric last night, got my fingers itching to try some flying geese – so before heading out to Nanny and Grandad’s for lunch, I’ve sewn up the first of the six panels that will make up the centre of my quilt, “Running through the Maze”

lucinda’s selection
Whilst poring over this lovely selection at Z and S, I imagined Lucinda was that weepy niece who’s staying with the rellies in England – spending her days in the garden, sodden hanky clutched in her hand, needlework forgotten on the ground.  And of course, Monkton maintains a beautiful maze so Lucinda spends a lot of time roaming it’s corridors, lost in her daydreams.

the pattern

The pattern I drew up whilst waiting for the fabric to arrive is nice and legible – aargh!  If this doesn’t result in new glasses, I’m not sure what will!  Never mind – I’ll just remember to look closely before stitching.

first step

I cut my large and small squares, pinned them up and set to work – goodness this is such a blissful way to sew flying geese …

back the other way

… and back through the other way.  It’s like magic every time!

the waste

And here’s the waste – so little it’s difficult to pick it up! Just dust this into the bin ’cause I’ll need to see where I’m going next.

first panel of six

And here we are, running through the maze with Lucinda – actually, she’s almost at the end.  I started with the second last panel because it was the smallest and would make me the least late for lunch!

a closer look

There’s a closer look.  In a foolish moment, I told someone last week, that when I quilted it, I would quilt around the larger flowers in the large print – ha!ha!ha! – I don’t think so.  I’m becoming very fond of the amish style of quilting – diagonal lines 2 inches apart – and I think I may have even found someone who is keen to do it for me!  (rubbing my hands with glee) A quilter I am not.

just so you know

oh! and just so you know I hadn’t chosen horrible fabrics for the Amish sampler – here’s a look at the colours in the cold light of morning – pretty huh!

The car is beckoning – I must away – have a lovely day!
