lunchbox treats and some lovely bits of fabric

Today was Thursday, visiting grandparents day, so no time for sewing but a little window for fabric shopping and tonight we needed some emergency lunchbox treat making.

Whilst on my walk this morning, I came up with a good possibility for the sashing of the little houses - a pale grey/blue polka dot - and I found the perfect one.

Then I needed a spring-like background for the seedling bowls - boy this was hard to pick, I must have carefully pored over the shelves 5 times before settling on this - but I think the pretty turquoise will be lovely.  And the background for the top half of the block actually has a very faint peachy polka dot.

There was also this dear little fat quarter - I’ve been smiling over this for the last month or so and might even have to go back for the last two …

I love the quaint energy of the little dancing folk.  Don’t know what to do with it yet but I’m sure another week of walking - marching! - along the beautiful river walk at the University of Queensland will provide me with an idea.

Do you do that?  Plot and dream and ponder and puzzle as you go about your day?  Sometimes I think it would be more peaceful to pop on some headphones and slow that internal chatter down! :-)

This evening, Nan, Little A and I were deeply troubled - there were only three lunchbox treats left - perfect for us for dessert, but then there’d be none left for the lunchbox tomorrow. “A-ha!”  I announced - Little A’s new homework routine is very holistic - she has to choose a news story she finds interesting and provide her opinion on it, she has to help plan the weekly menu and shopping, and she has to do some chores and cook!  So after dinner, whilst I washed up, Little A made a fresh batch of lunchbox treats (I did the hot honey bit) and for those readers who were tricked by the bubbly brown bumps in the fridge, here’s the recipe!

Ingredients

30 grams cornflakes

50 grams rice bubbles

50 grams rolled oats

50 grams of dark chocolate

150 mls of honey

50 grams of butter

Method

Mix the dry cereals together.  In a small pan, heat the dark chocolate, honey and butter until the chocolate and butter have melted.  Be careful not to let it boil over.  Add the warm honey mixture to the cereal and mix well.

Using a dessert spoon, spoon the mix into patty pans, put on a tray and pop into the fridge overnight.

Eat plenty and enjoy!

You simply must try them, they are delicious and *almost* healthy!

    YUM!! Only….what are rice bubbles??
    They sound so delicious!

I do that too, dream and plot during the day, nothing better than when the solution shows itself after hours…days….of trying to figure something out :-) The polkadots are perfect! I had been wondering what you would choose, and as soon as I saw this, I thought “of course! It’s perfect”
I’m curious about the planters. They are looking really good, and I have absolutely no idea how they are going to end up looking. LOL!

    Walking! Good for you!

I’m guessing rice bubbles are rice crispies ;-)

These look yummy! My daughter has a nut free classroom and that seriously cuts down on the snacks she can bring in. These might be just the right thing. Her snacks have to be “healthy”. These look close enough.

I’m not sure how to convert the grams into American measurements. The stuff I read just now when I looked it up says to weigh everything. You don’t do that do you?

Your snacks are so different! We have fruit and berries or a real slice of 100% ryebread!!! These are the healthy snacks… Your houses look every day prettier and prettier! I use to dream on holidays and during weekends, not to talk about those great items in blogland!

Yum yum yum! I do plot and plan through the day. It’s usually tooooo much to keep track of and is all forgotten by the end of the day when I sit down. Tragic.

What a fun thing to make. I love that fabric with the people on it. I’ve never seen anything like it. Is it still available? I love the seeding bowls and the fabrics you chose. I like standing back and looking at my shelves for fabric decisions. It is fun. My husband at my extravagant supply though.

    Wonderful those grey polka dots!
As far as plotting and planning, I do a lot of that during the day, but my by ideas come to me under the shower or while walking the dog. Yummy those snacks!

Plotting and planning is my forte ~ implamentation, on the other hand, is my shortcoming. As long as there is one more “perfect” fabric to track down, I can keep a project on hold indefinitely. “Paralysis by analysis” I think it’s called!

That is all I do all day ;-) Plot, dream, ponder and puzzle!

Plotting and dreaming is an important part of my day too. I actually insist on using graph paper pads at work, so I can draw quilt patterns during boring meetings (I don’t explain that that’s what they are for…)
That grey/blue polka dot works really well with your village blocks, and you have chosen one of my favourite colours for the background of the other one.
I’ll do my best not to make that sweet treat - it looks too good to resist ;-)

I’ve been plotting for days about how I’m going to quilt a border. I think sometimes ideas just have to percolate for a while.

I love the background you picked for your bowls - looks perfect!

    Hi Lily!

I love to see pictures of your work! I think that turquoise fabric is simply perfect for your seeding bowls! You have a great eye for colors.

And the lunchbox treat looks absolutely delicious. I am going to have to try making it myself…

    Take care!
