In true lily style, I also started medallion #2 today! See, initially I was inspired by my quilting guru Patti so thought to make it with reproduction fabrics and get those civil war diary blocks singing for their supper. But then, Amy mentioned that Anita was starting a medallion quilt-a-long and this just sounded too fun to miss out on. In fact, if you’re not too busy ;-) why don’t you check it out and sign on!

So is born my second medallion – completely different look. On the advice of Anita, I have selected and made my own centre – the Wheel of Chance (from Judy of course) and here’s the story … there’s always a story!

Wheel of chance
This medallion will be yellow and ecru – yellow because that’s the colour of the kitchen of my dreams, and because it will be full of light, and hope and energy and love. Also, Nanette challenged us to display our yellows last week – and all I could come up with was one small bowl. How did this happen!

I chose the centre block – Wheel of Chance – because that’s what life is – the never-ending circle, rolling us always forwards, bringing us new and challenging and delightful tricks, treats and people as we progress, all bound together – as in a quilt-a-long!

check and dress fabric
The yellow fabric in this block are from scraps of a beautiful polished cotton my mum used in the early 1970s to make me a dress when I was a wee little toddler – in fact, I’m sure one of the pieces in my drawer is a wonky sleeve! These scraps seemed a fitting place to begin. The border check is leftovers from the sheets mum made for Little A’s cradle.

pointy yellow
I have ordered a lovely rich stack of mixed yellow prints from Fat Quarter and Z & S – they will take about 10 days to arrive but that’s okay because Anita is not releasing the first border until the first week in June.

I don’t know how I’ll wait until then!
