my little marie antoinette

Little A’s school is celebrating Bastille Day today - I know, it’s not even the right month let alone the right day!  But the real day of celebration fell in the recent school holidays and French is the school’s second language studied so they decided today would be the day.

There’s a Best French Costume competition, French Vanilla Slices for sale, the children have been making rosettes all week and they will play French games and have French music and singing.

[ marie antoinette meets the second empire ]

Little A has gone as Marie Antoinette - with a Josephine hairstyle.  I mean, come on, how on earth was I supposed to create an amazing white wig!  So I got up at 6am to put on the heated rollers, and by 6.30 the bathroom was full of giggles and curls and hairspray.

Then it was on with the costume and a beauty spot - which I thought looked fabulous but Little A felt it was a bit unnatural for a 10 year old to have a beauty spot. So, off with the beauty spot.

And her pretty winter shoes from last year no longer fitted, so Little A decided rather than wear her Keds and look desperate (her words) she would wear her new converse and look radical!  Very Marie Antoinette.

Ahhhhhh she did look so sweet!  And she’s bringing home 2 vanilla slices - but there’s three of us - oh dear, what will we do!

p.s. we were having so much fun with the rollers and hairspray, we utterly forgot about the porridge - until it had turned into this …

… I foresee many many hours of scrubbing - there’ll probably be no enamel left!

oh dressing up is so much fun!
Scrubbing will be much less fun :-( I made our pot look like that, leaving potatoes on the stove. This was when Ask was a baby….somehow getting to things on time was not always possible. LOL!

Love your Marie Antoinette! The Converse are perfect. Oops on the pot… I do, however, understand.

Little A’s Converse shoes are adorable! Hope your pot will recover. We have forced ourselves to start using kitchen timers for nearly everything. It helps to keep us from forgetting things.

Love it all…the hair story…the converse…even the pot at the end. My favorite was the big revela at the end…she looks so pretty. I bet you were thinking how grown-up she looks. What a fun school project/day!

I think in honour of her very grown up and elegant look (with the slightly radical twist), Little A should be known as Capital A!

It looks like you have as much fun with dressing up in your house as we do in ours.

Capital A looks very regal, and oh so composed.

Thanks for sharing your Bastille Day with us.
