rosy posy
We had friends at kinder - many years ago now! - who had a dear cat named Moses. He was a tall, proud cat with a very elegant face and every time they mentioned him by name, they would chant “Moses Poses, thinks his toes are roses!” Naturally, ever since, whenever I think of all things rosy and posy, I think of Moses. Funny isn’t it, how connections are made in the mystery that is our mind. Even if insignificant or completely unimportant, they stay with us for ever!
Here’s a rosy posy quilt (see, made me think of Moses) I have spent many hours on over the last few days … All the fabric came from the wee fabric store in the back garden - rather satisfying and economical, I must say, doing ones’ fabric browsing so close to home.
My mum has been suggesting for years that I just make a simple quilt of squares - we see them so often in magazines and books and inevitably love them for their simplicity and prettiness. However, I did have a lovely print with love birds and vintage bird cages that just had to be left quite large in order to see its loveliness. And then I thought some wee four patches might add a bit of zing. So mum, I didn’t quite make it dead simple. Almost. But not quite. Sorry :-)
Cutting took a while but with the Radio National in the background, who cares! Laying out the squares - laboriously, lots of standing back and squinting, and squeals of “get off you wretched dog!” - was an incredibly peaceful and nourishing way to spend an hour or so. Sewing them up - it’s always more time consuming than you think, sewing long straight lines of simple. And, of course, my carefully ordered blocks fell out of order by the end and I had to wing it.
Now I’m quilting it. Onto a blanket. Just straight lines. Very satisfying.
When finished, I was thinking it would be draped over the keyboard in the sitting room but already it’s been earmarked for the living room floor for lying and reading and drawing. There’s also a demand for bean bag filled cushions. Yup, that could be comfy. I could manage that.
Must away - banana cake is calling me from the oven (I added peanuts and dried cranberries - hope it’s good) and there’s a table to be set for Shrove Tuesday and a family to feed. :-)

I love a simple patchwork, but have never once made one with just squares, despite really coveting them!
I am very taken with your not-so-simple-simple-patchwork. I might have to take that one and try it out myself!

It’s a beauty! More my style, as a scrap quilter. The dispersal of red throughout makes it a very happy quilt. ~karen

This is so beautiful & cheery. I love red my self and always ended up red fabric with intention of turning them into patchwork/quilt but still haven’t got the courage to do so..I’m determined to learn the art this year though :).
