& spring spools too
2008
Whilst working on the spring stars, I had the scrap drawer sitting on the pew beside me (yes, pew – we have two huge old church pews on the back verandah, either side of a long refectory style table – great for family gatherings, not great for sewing but jolly good for when you really need to spread out!) and discovering wonderful fabrics that had not been enjoyed for a while was too much fun!
Thus before I knew it, I was cutting little strips and squares for scrappy spools – well, very “bowy” spools – at the same time as piecing the nine-patch stars. My long chain-pieced buntings were an interesting assortment – had to be careful to sew the right bits into the right quilts!
I shall keep adding borders, medallion style, until it is a nice size – tablecloth size I’m thinking. With the soft yellow stripe in between each round of borders. And the spools will be varied in size – hopefully this will add whimsy whilst also not taxing my un-mathematical mind.
By the time I’ve plundered the bottom of the scraps drawer, I can see the Boot House draped with quilts that will ALL MATCH! :-) They’ll be cousins – calling out to each other and having family reunions on the clothesline.

Great fabrics and what a fun block!
I love the pictures of nature, your star blocks, and the spool blocks! What gorgeous spring colors!
You have been very busy again! I can only admire! Greetings from forest, where we three spent Saturday and yesterday. We could only pick 85 litres of lingonberries. Usually we get more in two days! I love the idea to make the quilt for your Auntie´s friend. So nice spring looking fabrics even with stars! Have a nice week!
You’ve been showing some really lovely things lately. These spools are so sweet and so are the stars in the previous post. Wonderful stuff!
Oh, so pretty! I love the idea of matching quilts–not quite the same but having a lot in common. The spools are very sweet. They look so nice draped over the chair. The Lily Admiration Society is cheering on you and the scraps!
Yet another lovely quilt! I love all the polka dot fun going on at your place lately :-)
Oh Lily I love it. LOVE IT. IT is so darling. I can’t tell you how big it makes me smile to see your colors and fabrics in such a cute block.
Quilt-cousins! LOL! They are so pretty. I like the way your scrapquilts will match. I like the light dotted fabrics you use for sashing. I think I’ll give light sashings a try on my next quilt…..if you don’t mind?! ;-)
