We almost forgot our way back inside.  We drifted out this morning, sleepy and cool, ready for the day.  Assuming our positions, I plonked down at one end of the table, beach blanket quilt on my lap, ready to keep quilting 2 inch strips onto the thrifted blanket.

Mum slipped down the other end, keen to stitch up the little houses I cut and pieced last night.

The sun moved higher into the sky, drenching the porch with heat and light.  The colours grew more vivid and the quilts grew larger.

Carolann arrived (Peter in tow), squished in between us, and cut and marked all that needed cutting and marking – she’s a treasure!  Julian – not sure whether he was indulging us, or simply taking pity on the children – whisked Abby and Peter off to sushi and “Up”.  Still we sewed.  A little midden of triangles appeared …

bobbins ran out, the wrong rows were sewn together, the mosquitoes gathered in whirring halos around our heads, and before long, it was time to concede that our day on the porch was done.

Time to pack up, and make our way back inside …
