wet-leaves

It’s raining .. it’s cold ..  it’s oh so grey .. and I have a cold that resembles the mother of all low pressure systems.  This nose is hovering on the coastline and is dumping more rain than the state has seen for decades.  Serious!  This morning I sneezed 17 times in a row with only a gasped breath between each thunderclap. Yuck!  I’ve taken to wodging the corners of a tissue into the end of my nose with the rest covering my mouth – truly, it’s soothing.  It’s like a wee mini humidifier and seems to slow down the dreadful sneezing.

As for my eyes – well I had to go get my new license today (and it was easy peasy – all that angst for nothing!) and I put on mascara three times before the photo was taken, and even then there wasn’t a trace left.  My overflowing watery eyes just kept sending it flooding down my cheeks in blue-grey rivulets.  Pretty.

Now I am in bed; aching, hot and cold, nauseous, and utterly incapable of any stitching.  This morning, I hobbled hopefully out to the sewing shed and laid out three long chinese coin strips I stitched up YEARS ago with the intent of finally putting them to some use, and after hours of pondering I know just how to put them together – but it won’t be today.  They would only suffer water damage from the low pressure system.

Instead, Julian has loaded The Nun Story onto my laptop for me.  He bought me new, lovely, soft pale yellow pyjama pants with a velvet ribbon drawstring and Arthur Rackham illustrations of Alice in Wonderful – at the MadHatter’s Teaparty – scattered over them and the latest World of Interiors whilst we were out.

So I shall seek refuge here amongst the flannel, and when he gets home with Abby, they will bring me soda water and juice, and if I’m lucky an almond meringue from Aviv’s.

p.s. whilst trawling through the backlog of photos, so as to add some colour to this boring post, I came across my drawings from last year and the little card pack I made to keep in my handbag – actually, I gave it to CarolAnn and she keeps it in her handbag.  But that was really fun, and the hours I spent drawing on the mum’s back porch were very satisfying … I think there may be some more in my future.  That’s the great thing about photos huh!  You look at old ones and go “Oh that’s right!  I really love that!” (or, of course, “Good grief!  What on earth was I thinking!”)
