the sun is rising …
2009
… over my house by the sea. It dapples the sky with beams of rosiness – but you know the saying, “Red sky at night, sailors’ delight; Red sky in morning, sailors take warning.” I hope that boat is heading for a safe harbour!
Some days, quiet stitching is just perfect for those moments during the day when the lovely child has been delivered to and collected from, cared for, listened to, fed and read to; the clothes have been washed and hung, the floors have been cleaned (and thanks to the dachshund who is now expecting a knitted kerchief – this takes quite a bit longer than in the past :-0), the beds are made; and the sweet doggies have been amused and exercised.
Mmm-hmm. Instead, there’s a kettle to be boiled, Yorkshire tea to be steeped, threads collected, and a back porch that beckons.
I’ve also finished the waves that foam and roll past my whale as she rises to the surface, and perched a pair of crabs atop the rocks that jut from the waters of my bay.
A girl is rising from the hilltop, her telescope poised, and very soon, I think a red booby will be coming to rest nearby after being chased across the ocean by those wretched frigates, who are now wheeling above the boat with their plundered breakfast.
And now, I have more DMC322 and tomorrow, there will be more tea, and hopefully some more of those quiet moments. More ocean to paint, a sweet face to illuminate, perhaps a fence to build, some trees to grow, and of course, the red footed booby (I just love saying that word … booby).
Such delight, what may be produced from a simple needle, some coloured threads and a cotton dishcloth.

How inspiring. Beautiful text. You are gifted in more ways than one!
Brilliant! I can hear the ocean waves brought to me by your lovely imagination and needlework skills. Sorry about Toph and the kerchief…
You say: “what may be produced from a simple needle, some coloured threads and a cotton dishcloth” and I must add “by a very talented and creative woman.”
So beautiful your dishcloth is looking now! I love to see it! We still have tons of snow here and thick ice on the lake… Have a nice weekend!
>Standing ovation>
