2012
My lovely Mum has been staying with us since last Thursday. Oh my, we’ve had such fun … scraping and sanding an old cedar desk, shopping for reclaimed floorboards, needlepoint and knitting in the warm morning sun of the front room, frantic patchwork, cooking my favourite childhood meals, a fabulous afternoon of hard rubbish (here she is, squished into the car with our loot!) and best of all … hours and hours together.
Tomorrow, she flies off to Canada, to visit my sister and her wee boys for ten weeks. They’ll have a marvellous summer together. But oh, I will miss my Mum terribly. Even though she usually lives eight hours away, on the coast of the Southern Pacific, it feels wonderfully close to me – ‘specially compared to Brisbane! We speak every day – sometimes several times – and I know she’s just an easy car ride away. Our phones are constantly busy with text messages and photos whizzing back and forth.
Ah well, I suppose that’s what comes of having to share our mums with our siblings. Sometimes it’s their turn :-)

I how how it is to miss your family. My parents and 10 brothers and sisters live on the east coast…too far to see often. It sounds like you’ve had so much fun with your mum this week!
After having spent most of my children a few hours from my grandparents, we are now blessed to ALL live in the same small town.. I live near (as in easy little walk)to my parents and my maternal grandparents. I live > 5 miles from all my siblings and my paternal grandmother.
Ours is a sad, good bye sort of moment: http://likemamalikedaughter.blogspot.com/882012/06/this-moment_29.html
I lost my Mum 3 years ago and I miss her so much. I also spoke to her every day. I’m sure she’ll have a great time with your sister and she’ll come home with lots of lovely family stories and maybe a few goodies for the Boots.
Enjoy your weekend.
Blessings Gail
