what to do on a cold and cloudy day
2010
I farewell the girlie as she heads off to school and light a beautiful candle of mint and bergamot …
that travelled across oceans to bring me good cheer and healing.
I settle on the sofa with my ripple blanket …
across my knees and crochet, whilst immersing myself in the gothic travails of Sir Norman Kingsley and his beloved Leoline.
Then, after a long and quiet day, when the sun finally breaks through the clouds for a brief half hour before setting, I gather my crocheted fancies …
and head out to the back garden for some hand stitching. The cool night air clears my head, enlivens my skin, rustles my shawl and skirt.
I listen to the jolly clamouring of the birds as they settle in the oak tree and lilypily for the night, the shrieking yaps of over excited dogs and children as they walk by my house
(and the moody bellowing of the woman next door who comes home each night to viciously berate her husband for his day’s failings – he always fails.)
But before I know it, the light has slid away and I cannot see the thread on my needle.
Even Toph has headed inside and surveys my dark stitching with curiosity.
Time to go in and feed the family. What a lovely cold and cloudy day.

It sounds as though you are settling in nicely, healing, keeping busy hands, and getting all buttoned up against the cold. ~karen
What are you making? It looks great – I love to see textiles combined – makes things so interesting. Will await more pictures!
Ahhh, mint and bergamot. It sounds like you are an old pro at staying cozy. Your project is very enticing!
Sounds like heaven!
It’s so funny to read that you are cold and cloudy when the sun has just come out over here. Finally winter is over. I love all of the colors you are using. They are so beautiful.
The ripple blanket is coming along so nicely… gorgeous colors! Nice to know that you are feeling better now :)
So glad it got there safe and sound. :)
