with love for sam
Sam is my soon to be nephew - he will hopefully be arriving in a few short weeks, all the way away in Vancouver, Canada. So I have been stitching up a storm, with Mum by my side, for the last few weeks. Sam will have flannel bunny rugs for every day, we’ve even requilted one of Oscar’s quilts for him (we used a crappy batting which simply HAD TO GO), I’m making a blanket banner for him with his name, and Mum, Carolann and I have worked hard the last two days to make him his very own quilt. And I’m in love …

with the fabrics ’cause really, who can resist American Jane and green rickrack fabric …

with the dear wee houses … (yes Julian - they do indeed have BIG eaves!)

with the beautifully crisp, clean, vivid colours …

and Abby loves it so much, she spirited it away to her woodland kingdom … where she pretended to be asleep …
Ahh Sam, I wish we could be there to hold you when you arrive, to marvel at your wee fingers and toes, to have you nestle into my shoulder whilst I bob from one foot to the other and pat your sweet little bottom. And then I would wrap you snuggly in one of your bunny rugs and lay you down to sleep … and then, dear Janie, I would wash your clothes and your dishes, vacuum your floor, cook your dinner, and clean your bathroom. And for dear little Oscar (my first little nephew and the soon to be big brother), we would go to the park and play and play and play, have long bubble baths, and read lots of stories. Alas, we are a whole ocean away. Hopefully, we will see you soon :-)
On another note, I finished the quilting of the beach blanket, and the binding - it is sooooooooo lovely - and in between, I made a potholder from the scraps. ‘Cause it seemed like a good idea - all those scraps laying about, bits of blanket tempting me, and, you know me sweet friends, I am useless at resisting a new project. However, I did finish it too … maybe I’m growing? :-)

Made with beach blanket scraps, thrifted, vintage wool blanket, and …

… backed with a thrifted, vintage bedspread. Hmmm … maybe I’ll put it in a basket for Heather’s upcoming Vintage Swap. That would be novel, being prepared.
