“would you like a french press cosy?”
2010
“That would be nice dear. Not only would it keep our coffee warm, but if you made it long enough, it could cover the spout and keep the flies out.”
[ this may be a Brisbane thing - if we leave the coffee press uncovered, flies dive down the spout. Yuck! And we've drunk them. Yuck! And then frantically spat them out. Yuck! And wondered why they haven't invented a consumable disinfectant. ]
“What colour would you like?”
“Red.”
[ this is a Jo Sharp red - and frankly, I couldn't recommend using her wool. Every ball I've ever bought has had manky bits where the ply loosens, tangles, then breaks and you have to cut chunks out of the ball and rip out your knitting or crochet ... her wool is a pain in the bum. Debbie Bliss is SUCH better quality. ]
Crochet, crochet, crochet … add some pink.
Crochet, crochet, crochet … add some blue.
Crochet, crochet, crochet … add some white
“Oh you didn’t make me a red one? Lucy, didn’t I ask for a red one?”
[ lucy is mum's dog, she's involved in all family discussions and makes an important contribution. ]
“It is red.”
“No, it is red and pink and blue and white.”
“No it’s red, the other colours are just wee highlights.”
“I wanted red.”
“It IS red and look how nice it matches your plates. Now shut-up and be grateful.”
Mothers, you just can’t please them. :-0
p.s. the flower is made from Lucy’s [ as in the fabulous crocheting Lucy, not mum's dog, she's not that clever ] pattern. It doesn’t look quite like Lucy’s in the middle – actually, nothing like it and I don’t know why – but it’s awfully sweet and my crochet skills are definitely improving. However, Nanny and Mum cannot watch me in action – they say I “poke and wrap” in the clumsiest way and they’re amazed the ensuing fabric turns out to be crochet. Ha!

I think it looks lovely. The cozy does go well with the plates. It would have been horribly boring all in red. I can’t crochet, so I don’t care how the end product came about. It looks fine to me!
The colours ARE a great match for the crockery! Nice work!
ugh – flies fly down into your coffee? I’m glad that RED cosy will keep them out ;)
(I might suggest your mum has an eye test – that is clearly red, with only the smallest hint of accents)
You crack me up! And I love how Lucy is consulted. Classic! I think it’s most definitely red and most definitely beautiful!
It’s beautiul. Most defiantely red too ;)
Heehee! Aside from wanting to spit out my coffee there for a moment (or at least inspect it), I chuckled through your post. It matches the plates beautifully! And — very cheerful!
The colors and yarns are wonderful. I love what you’ve made.
Love it! And love the flowers!! After this baby blanket I’m working on, I’m going to try little flowery things for headbands for my 6 yr old neice.
